Kate Shively is a PhD candidate at Indiana University’s School of Education majoring in Curriculum Studies and minoring in Learning Sciences. She is an instructor and supervisor for elementary pre-service teachers (both graduate and undergraduate students). Kate’s research interests and pursuits include how non-formal learning environments, specifically digitally progressive learning environments (Shively, in press), may influence and/or develop children’s personal power and interests. Kate designed and implemented a digitally progressive art studio for elementary children called Saturday Studio in collaboration with the Art Education Department at Indiana University. Saturday Studio is in its sixth semester of providing a space for both children and adults to make, play, and learn using various digital media and technologies.
