Kate Shively started her career in education in the elementary classroom as both a special and general educator. Currently, she is an instructor and supervisor for elementary pre-service teachers (both graduate and undergraduate students). Kate’s research interests focuses on the intersection of children’s personal power and interests, specifically related to media arts and digital technologies in non formal learning environments. Kate designed and implemented a digitally progressive art studio for elementary children called Saturday Studio in collaboration with the Art Education Department at Indiana University. Saturday Studio is in its sixth semester of providing a space for both children and adults to make, play, and learn using various digital media and technologies.
